Baked Eggs in a Bread Bowl
I recently saw a recipe online and thought it was easy enough to attempt. It's called Baked Eggs in a Bread Bowl, and it's exactly what it sounds like.
Ingredients:
The Panera Bread bread bowls were already cut by them. because I forgot to tell them not to cut them. So unfortunately, my plan of cutting a bowl in half to use was unsuccessful. However, I just cut off around 1/4 of the top and dug out the soft bread inside. This recipe doesn't really take long, so I waited until an hour before dinner time to start prepping.
First things first, take out all the ingredients and preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

Ingredients:
- Panera Bread Bread Bowls (2-pack for $3.95+tax)
- Chives
- Sour Cream*
- Provolone Cheese
- Sun-Dried Tomatos
- Eggs
- Salt & Pepper
- Milk (Optional)
* The recipe I followed calls for a heavy cream, but I was thinking that a sour cream would fit well too.
- If you have not already done so, scoop out the bread from inside.
- Crack an egg into the bread bowl.
- I put some chopped chives on top of the egg for a bit of flavor
- Plop around 1-2 teaspoon of sour cream on the egg.
- Sprinkle the cheese all around.
- More chives on the cheese.
- And I placed one sun-dried tomato on top for aesthetic reasons.
- Milk is optional. However, it made the egg creamy, and I really liked it.
Place in the oven to bake for 20-25 minutes. Cooking time should be around 20 minutes if you want a runny egg, or 25 minutes if you want a more solid egg. I feel like a runny egg is better for this meal because the bread tends to toast more and become harder to chew/bite. But with the runny egg, it makes the bread softer on the inside.
While my grandparents just ate the inside, aka the egg and etc., my parents and brother ate everything. The bread did get a bit too toasty for my first attempt and I guess my grandparents couldn't take the hardness of the bread. My dad ate it as it was, but my mom and brother had mixed the egg with some more sour cream. The runny egg was great and even I was able to finish the entire bread bowl.
Since this was my first time making this, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. But now that I know how the baking and everything is going to be, I was to try and improve it and try different variations. I'm thinking of buying some smaller bread bowls (or even small dinner rolls) and maybe try a breakfast version with the egg, cheese, ham and maybe even bacon bits.
If any of my readers are interested in the original recipe, here it is. However, just know that my bowl was based off of this, and not entirely following their recipe. Please enjoy! And let me know if you try making the Baked Eggs in a Bread Bowl recipe.
