Atashinchi no Danshi Episode 3 Notes of Doom
Shinzo-shi – In this episode, Koganei refers to Shinzo as Shinzo-shi. “Shi” is a suffix used in more formal situations and is an honorific “Mr.” It often appears in legal documents.
Japanese titles and suffixes can be hard to understand and/or remember... Lucky for us, there's a wiki article! lol
“Can I look yet?” “Not yet” – In Japan, when kids play hide-and-seek, kakurenbo in Japanese, the person finding people calls out “Mou ii kai?” (can I look yet) and the people hiding either call out “Mada da yo!” (not yet) or “Mou ii yo!” (yes, you can look). That’s why the brothers are sort of “singing” those two lines. That’s the cadence little kids use when they’re playing the game. ^_^
Shazna – Visual kei band from the 90’s. Inoue-san is dressed up in a style reminiscent of the one used in the Sumire September Love video which can be found below. A wiki page on them can be found here.
Home visit – (Katei Houmon) At the beginning of the school year (April), many teachers are obliged to do “katei houmon,” which are visits to their students’ homes. The purpose is to see the child’s home environment and interact with the parents (usually the mom), though the visits are usually fairly short.
These often come up as an issue in school dramas like Gokusen.
Omiai – An arranged marriage meeting. These usually serve to introduce the potential couple to each other, covering questions like hobbies and the like.
Jang Dong Gun – A Korean actor. Yes, he has a wiki page.
Fighting coat (Tokkoufuku) – This is the proper name for Takeru’s coat, which are worn fairly exclusively by members of biker gangs. They traditionally come in black or white, but recently more colorful jackets have been introduced. The jackets are embroidered with traditional Japanese motifs (notice the profusion of cherry blossoms on Takeru’s red coat), and kanji with the name of the gang they belong to.
It’s interesting to note that the front of Takeru’s jacket, over the pockets, says “Shodai Souchou” which means he was the founder, and first leader, of his bike gang. There’s lots of other writing but we haven’t been able to read all of it yet. ^_^
